A decade of digital commissioning

HMSMobile has digitized a crucial process for the start-up of an industrial project, ensuring traceability throughout its lifetime

Conducting commissioning in a 100% digital, paperless environment was the challenge taken on in 2015 by HMSWeb Tecnologia da Informação, which delivered to the market the mobile version of the disruptive commissioning engineering tool, HMSWeb (Handover Management System). It took less than five months from concept to the first version of HMSMobile, which proved to be a powerful tool for providing more agile service to clients in the mining, oil & gas and energy sectors, among others.

“The mobile version of HMSWeb has played a key role in consolidating it as the best commercial solution for quality management, mechanical completion and commissioning on the market. This perception is not only ours, but that of all the clients who have adopted this tool in their projects and who, with their feedback, enable us to improve it,” says Luciano Gaete, CEO of HMSWeb Tecnologia da Informação.

“The success of HMSMobile has contributed to the consolidation of strategic partnerships, including the addition of HMSWeb as an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) on the Microsoft Marketplace platform. This has extended the solution’s global reach, making it available to Microsoft consultants and partners all over the world,” he says.

Internal development

The development of HMSMobile was carried out by an internal team with the support of partners specializing in mobile technology. “This collaboration was crucial to consolidating digital knowledge in the company, allowing the exchange of experiences and the improvement of skills in software development in the mobile environment,” he points out.

According to him, the initial challenges were to guarantee a simple and efficient user experience, even on devices with smaller screens, and to allow multiple users to work on different devices in an integrated way and without data conflicts.

“Overcoming connectivity limitations in remote environments, guaranteeing information security and maintaining data consistency have been challenges we have successfully faced throughout the evolution of HMSMobile,” he adds.

Challenging projects

Large-scale projects in the mining sector, such as S11D and CLN150, as well as projects in the O&G, energy and paper & cellulose sectors have been key to improving HMSMobile.

“These challenging environments, highly complex projects such as offshore platforms, paper & cellulose production units and thermal power plants, presented complex commissioning management demands, according to the specifics of each market. This required the development of a highly flexible, lightweight and effective mobile solution,” says Luciano Gaete.

“With HMSMobile we control projects involving 90,000 to 120,000 pieces of equipment in large mining projects fully digitally and free of paper. The application has enabled us to efficiently and accurately manage more than half a million field activities, demonstrating its robustness and ability to operate in different complex industrial environments,” emphasizes the executive.

Our difference

“The mobile solution has increased the reach of our platform into the field environment and has further strengthened HMSWeb’s value proposition of offering a complete solution for managing the entire commissioning process,” says Luciano Gaete.

For the executive, the app has brought a new dimension of mobility and efficiency. “It has increased the company’s visibility and once again demonstrated our ability to innovate and offer high-impact technological solutions for the industry. With innovation as a tradition, to which we have remained faithful since the company was founded,” he concludes.
